Come October
by Les Krames, Newsletter Editor

It is hard to believe that this coming October 12th the Moraga Historical Society was born. Yes, we will be 40 years old and not a day older! Spending a lot of time amongst the archives in the History Center, I guess, just makes us feel older.

Our founders Elinor Dickenson, Richard & Nancy Erwin, Marilyn Harbord , Lloyd & Sonia Levitin, William Macoskill, Donald & Jean Manuel, Brother Wilfrid Mathew, Dorothy Mutnick, and John & Gladys Shaly got together in 1965 with Brother Dennis Goodman and created this Society which lights the way for so many researchers and visitors today.

Necessarily, the Newsletter is also reaching middle age. Brother Dennis became the first editor in 1966 and assume kept at the helm until Warren Miller took over in 1978. J.J. Feurst took over in 1979 and handed it to Ed Miller in 1980. In 1981 three editors saw to it that the Newsletter kept alive, Marcia Hardy, Katherine Grove and Marj Atkins. Marj carried on into the year,1982 but Ellie Vasak finished out the year. Alice Breckling took over in 1983 and continued until 1988. Barbara Gibbs became editor in 1989 and continued until her sudden death in June of 1992. This was when I took over and have had the privilege of guiding El Rancho Moraga Newsletter ever since.
