The Society's early Annual Banquets had themes: "Pioneer Days", "Indians of the Rancho", "Railroads", etc.
For the Indian theme, Bro. D. insisted that some authentic Indian foods be served as hors d'oeuvres. How he managed to find smoked bear meat, venison jerky and other (don't ask) gourmet foods I'll never know. They made a hit with the diners and were the talk of the evening.
Another time, he wanted fava beans included on the menu. Now, at that time, fava beans were not a staple item in any of the Lamorinda markets. The banquet committee spent hours, driving miles to find fava beans and studying cook books. By Golly, Brother Dennis got his Fava beans!
