Brother Dennis suffered from diabetes and had difficulty walking. His good friend, Elinor Dickenson, having had a stroke, also had difficulty walking. She had purchased a motorized scooter but was uneasy using it and finally stopped using it. A mutual friend suggested that perhaps Brother Dennis would like to have it. She thought it was a wonderful idea and in his own words, Brother Dennis thereafter became "The Terror of Saint Mary's College". His stories of driving around the college "with coat tails flying" were a delight to read. The gift opened up new vistas for him and while he had other scooters later, Elinor's had to be very special and he was forever grateful to her.
