1 ABELOE William Biographies 1970-80 Alameda/Contra Costa 1933 10/09/82 Father William Abeloe was recognized as an authority on historical landmarks in California. His knowledge of this subject helped him win "Hit the Hot Spot", a contest challenging the contestant's knowledge of California's history. Father Abeloe's background as a California history buff won him the contest. He was the author of at least 3 books: "Historic Spots of California", "The History of Leander's Parish", (in San Leandro) and " The History of St. Anthony's Parish"(Oakland) . May 1972, Father Abeloe was tour host of an Oakland Museum sponsored tour to the "Spanish Roots of California History". Father Abeloe, former pastor of St. Perpetua Catholic Church, Lafayette died at the age of 49 of an apparent heart attack while attending a conference at Reno.
